About The Jogging Dog

Growing up on a ranch in rural Northern California I developed a love for animals. My love for dogs and a desire to help others prompted me to become a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind after college. After raising three puppies, I decided to pursue a career as a dog trainer and attended Triple Crown Academy for Professional Dog Trainers in 2003. Since then I have worked for dog daycare and kennel facilities, and I have worked with various rescue organizations. I have experience working with breeds of all sizes and temperaments. I have personally trained my own dogs in basic obedience and agility, and I have volunteered with the Pit Bull Socialization and Obedience Crew through the Sacramento County Animal Shelter.

I created The Jogging Dog because I believe that daily exercise is essential to our pets' health and longevity. Many dogs need much more than a dog walker in order to meet their daily exercise requirements. I became an avid runner a few years ago, and one or more of my dogs would frequently join me on my shorter runs. I've experienced first hand the effects regular exercise had on my dogs' behavior and health. My goal is to help other dog owners in the Greater Sacramento area experience these benefits as well.

Desiree Haight, owner

Dogs have always been a part of my life. I love the companionship and unconditional love a relationship with our dogs can give. I understand that you love your dog like I love mine and how special they are to us; they are family and very dear to our heart.

I believe a huge part of a dog's health and happiness, just like ours, is their fitness. If our dogs become sedentary, they may gain weight, joints become stiffer and their metabolism slows down. Consequently, they start to age faster, not unlike us humans. I also realize that everyone is busy and sometimes we don't have time to walk or run our dogs. I welcome the opportunity to help you keep your dog fit and healthy.

I am also available for pet sitting.
